چکیده

Abstract. Field experiences are a critical component of undergraduate geoscience education; however, traditional onsite field not always practical due to accessibility, and the popularity alternative modes learning in higher education is increasing. One way support student access through virtual trips, implemented either independently or conjunction with in-person trips. We created trip (VFT) Grand Ledge, regionally important suite sedimentary outcrops central lower Michigan, USA. This VFT undertakes all stages project, from question development detailed observation data collection interpretation. The was sedimentation stratigraphy courses at two different liberal arts institutions, one version conducted other online. presented locally hosted website distributed an online platform. Students completed series activities using form outcrop photos, 3D models hand samples, photos thin sections. Student products included annotated notes, stratigraphic column, collaborative correlation, final written reflection. assessment demonstrated that students successfully achieved inquiry-oriented outcomes, reflection responses provide anecdotal evidence experience comparable geology onsite. example successful upper-level course via emphasis on local geology.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Stratigraphy, Sedimentology, and Sequence Stratigraphy of the Lower Triassic Sinbad Formation, San Rafael Swell, Utah

The Lower Triassic Sinbad Formation (Thaynes Group) in the San Rafael Swell of east-central Utah (11-18 m thick) represents the maximum flooding zone and at least part of the highstand systems tract of a 185+ m thick depositional sequence. The Sinbad Formation conformably overlies siliciclastic tidal flat, fluvial channel and carbonate peritidal deposits of the Black Dragon Formation, a transgr...

Multi-scale simulation of fluvio-deltaic and shallow marine stratigraphy

We present a parameterization of fluvio-deltaic drainage network evolution and alluvial architecture in a basin-scale 2-DH model. The model setup is capable of producing convergent and divergent channel networks. Major elements are the alluvial-ridge aggradation and the coupled overbank deposition, the dimension and style of the channel belt and the sub-grid stratigraphic expression. Avulsions ...

Sedimentology and Stratigraphy of the AND-1B Core, ANDRILL McMurdo Ice Shelf Project, Antarctica

During the 2006–2007 austral season, the ANDRILL McMurdo Ice Shelf Project recovered a core 1285 m-long (AND-1B) from Windless Bight in the McMurdo Sound region. This core contains a range of lithologies, including both siliciclastic and volcanic diamictites, sandstones and mudstones; diatomites; and volcanic ash/tuff and one phonolitic lava fl ow. The succession has been subdivided into eight ...
